86 fiero wont run

i have a 86 fiero it will turn over good i think i can hear the fuel pump if i spray starting fluid in it it will fire then u have to keep it reved up or it will die and if you stop and let it idle after you drove it it will die and dont want to start the guy i bought it from said it has new map sensor and plugs and wires and distributer. any help would be greatly appreciated i need to get it going again thanks

Here are some things to check:
Dirty Fuel Filter - lowers fuel pressure so injectors won't work well at idle
Weak fuel pump - see above.
Dirty Fuel injectors - see above.
Vacuum leak - Too much air leaking in. check EGR tube (very common problem), intake gaskets, vacuum lines, etc.
Clogged catalytic converter - restricts air flow


From what you describe, I would bet that the vacuum leak is the likely cause.

it has a new fuel filter i believe the pump is good i am wondering where it shoots fuel into the buterfly valve on the motor under the air filter is a unconstant sputter the it will idle some times and it is a evan mist kind of thanks for the reply
