I have a 1986 SE V6 that has been a great car since I bought it in 1988.

About 6 weeks ago, after having driven about 7 miles on an interstate hwy, it started to sputter, with the tach dropping to 0 then bouncing back up quickly, and repeat.

If I held the accelerator to the floor I would be able to limp it along for a few hundred yards but ultimately it would die.

If I waited 5 min. with the car totally off, I would be able to start it back up and drive for several miles.

Over time the miles that I was able to go shortened from 25 at the onset, to about 3.

Mechanic has had it for 6 weeks and has replaced the coil and Ignition module in the distributor. No luck.

He says fuel pressure is good, but it sure acts like fuel delivery is getting disrupted.

Anyone got any ideas ?

Fuel pump could be over-heating after a while and drop pressure. Then when it cools it works fine again.
Did he replace the ignition coil and/or the pick-up coil?

The only thing i can think of is the spark plugs. the spark plugs can cause stalling. i just changed mine (20k miles over) (guy i bout it from is dumb) and its not doin it at all.
