I have turned a 91 Sunbird into a mini stock racecar. No modifications are allowed. So its stock. I'm having an issue in the transmission. When I am in drive, it shifts through 1 and 2 just fine, but right about 60-65 MPH when it shifts into 3, I can feel the shift and then the engine starts breaking up almost like it hitting the rev limiter. The tranny is the original factory transmission with over 100k miles on it. Just curious if it could be anything but a blown transmission.

Thanks!

If the engine is breaking up why do think it is the trani? Do you have a tachometer and know at what engine speed the 1-2 shift occurs versus the engine speed of the 2-3 shift?

Could be the convertor is going bad.:(

Whats the fluid look like? Grey?

Has anyone messed with the "TV" cable? ( trans shift cable - not the "shifter" cable)

Is the " Blue TCC plug "attached?

See PIC below and disattach to see if it helps...........

There's no tach installed. Not sure about the mph at first shift point. The engine is new so that's why I think its something there. Although it could be a computer issue.

The fluid is still pretty reddish. I'll stop by my shop tomorrow and check for that blue plug.
