i have a 92 grand am and have a few headaches with it,was getting it ready for winter filled it up with antifreeze and it severly overheated within 2 blocks of my house, havew had some previous problems we replaced the thermostat, the cap twice and the water pump, been having trouble with the coolant fan working properly so its being connected direct to the battery, all summer its been fine no problems, also the heater is throwing out some major cold air,no heat at all,any suggestions, help would be appreciated since this is the only thing i have

If you drained the anitfreeze and then refilled it sounds like you have air in the cooling system and did not bleed it.

OK. how do you bleed the air out never had this problem, also could it possibly be the thermostat? I'll be getting a new cooling fan in the next couple of days, running it direct to the battery what kind of damage can come from this?

Concerning the bleeding process, which engine? The fan is supposed to run only when it hits a certain temperature. If you run it all the time you will shorten its life span.

TO honestly say this car was given to us after our 88 astro van stopped shifting mechanic rebuilt the tranny and yep still would not shift out of first gear anyway it was redone 3 times, which in return for nothing he gave us this car so not to sure how abused it is, we ran the fan direct because very low funds when it happened (we connect and disconnect the wire from battery when we use it) hasnt over heated since june..ok my husband needs to no how exactly do you bleed the air out of the raidiator?

To best describe the process, we need to know what size engine you have in it. If you copy the VIN number and post it we can determine for sure what engine you have.
