94 Firebird transmission only slips when hot and only going into first gear. Why?

My 94 Firebird usually stays pretty cool. The temp gauge never really goes much past 160 (the needle usually sits right above it). However, for some reason after being used for a few hours, it'll suddenly start to get warm. When it does, the transmission almost always starts slipping when going into first. It never does it going into any other gear, just when going from a stop into first gear. Eventually I'll feel it shift into first gear, then second, and so on, it's just that initial start it'll only coast a little bit before shifting in, which could take a good 15 seconds. I added more coolant, which I was low on, but I don't know if that helped or not. My transmission fluid is a little dark, but it's at the proper level. Any ideas?

change the fluid and trani filter
