Hello, new to your site and I was hoping somebody could answer a few questions I have. I have a 1994 Pontiac grand am has the 3.1 liter V6. My problem is the car runs really rough at low rpm's misses and shakes and the whole bit, it runs decent at about 2500-3000 rpm's but I can still detect a slight miss. The temperature guage is burried way above 280 and wont go down and no it is not hot its like that all the time, I don't know if that is related or not, plugs are new, plugs wires look good, everything looks alright. Also when the lid to the air filter box is not screwed down tight I can't hardly get it to start and when I do the condition worsens significantly. It is better when the engine is cold, when she warms up a little i have to hold the gas about half down to even get it to fire. There is no check engine light on so I can't diagnose it that way. Any help or advice would be great im getting frustrated with this thing. I have also checked for vaccum leaks and can't find anthing noticable.

It could be bad plug wires, they are checked with an ohmmeter, bad coil, bad crank sensor, etc. You should have the computer checked even if the CEL is not on. Autozone and other parts stores do it at no charge.

Thanks for the reply, my only problem is I live about 4 miles out of town I just bought this car and rented a trailer to get it home. I don't feel like paying for the trailer again to haul it into town and the car doesn't run good enough for me to trust it that far. I am leaning to the crank position sensor, but if that went bad wouldn't the car not start all together? The MAP sensor is new also and I put new plug wires on today. Rechecked for vaccum leaks and still found nothing.
