okay so here's the deal. about a month ago i bought this car (95 Firebird) from a private party. Drove the car around and it worked great. Last night I took the car to P.I.R. (Portland International Raceway) to see what the car could run on the quarter mile. The first four races the car ran great. On the fifth race I started accelerating and when the car reached the shifting point from 1st to 2nd, it just sat on redline for about 1-1.5 seconds before shifting and again from 2nd to 3rd. I spoke with quite a few people and everyone is saying I should get the transmission rebuilt. The car still runs and drives fine even at speed, just not at full throttle. I was hoping someone could shed some light on this. Thanks
the car ran a 14.175 first run. after that tan 14.2 all night.

Since you are going to dog the car out on a race track (dont know why you'd do that with that car) but anyways, if you want to race your make pretend race car on the track, it's going to cost alot to keep it up. You can rebuild it if you want, but if you take it to the track, it will be something that will need to be done frequently. By the way what did it run in 1/4 mile high 18's?

Same thing mines doing a few more times of that and the transmission will start slipping in 3rd gear like mines is right now Some friends of mines said I need a program on it to reajust the shift points haven't done it yet but if you do before me let me know.

Well, transmission diagnosis starts with 2 very easy things. Check the fluid level, and check the fluid condition.

You could try a new filter and gasket, but chances are, your seals are going out, and its time for new clutches and seals.

If it was running fine, and now isn't - suggest something has changed in the tranny.

Running it at the track may have pushed things over the edge for a rebuild. Check the fluid level and quality - ought to give you a better direction. Hope for a fluid and filter change as a fix, but prepare for something more.
