95 GA/Quad4 Oil leak

Hello, all.

I'm trying to resurrect a '95 Grand Am for my daughter. It has set unused for about a year and a half. It has a couple of fluid leaks: power steering and oil. I'm still trying to track down the power steering, but I can see where the oil is coming from.

On the left (driver's) side of the engine, there is a small metal plate that appears to be missing a screw. It will be easy enough to find a screw and replace it, but I'm wondering what this plate is for? It also seems odd that oil would be oozing out of such a place. Is there a gasket underneath this plate that should be replaced?

You can try going to www.gmpartsdirect.com and look at the exploded engine diagrams or try a chiltons or similar manual. From the picture I cant tell much.

Thanks Mel. I was on that site, but couldn't find any diagrams.
