95 Pontiac Grand AM SE. Hopefully someone can help with this very frusting and weird problem my car is all of a sudden having. I left the house yesterday, drove into town (about 9 miles) with no problem. Pulled into a parking spot at the store, put the car into park and thought, is the car idling weird? Turned off AC, no difference, so I thought maybe I was just imagining the weird idle. Came out of the store an hour or so later and the car didn't want to start. After several tries it did start, but that's when the horrible idling started. It idles so rough it shakes the whole car. I got it home and tried the code reader on it. No codes. No engine light or any other light. Once in gear, the car is smooth as normal. No hesitating taking off, no hesitating hitting passing gear. Stop at a light, idling goes back to shaking the whole car again. Car is running really rich on fuel smell. Very little smoke on start up.
We have changed all the plugs and wires (boots). Replaced the Idle Air Control Valve. Checked for vacuum leaks, checked the MAP sensor. We are at a loss. Anyone have any idea what we need to look for?? I have just been offered a new job and my car decides this is a good time to do this. LOL. Thanks in advance to anyone who has any suggestions!!
