My 95 sunfire is having some trouble. It's hesitant to accelerate and once you get going 50-70 mph the gas pedal shakes.. Just the pedal not the steering wheel. I have another car that's transmission's going out and it doesn't really feel like that with the sunfire. Any advice/ideas?

Cmon other guy this is so easy its screaming fuel filter right at you. All you need to do is go to autozone(or any parts store) spend ten bucks and tell them your sunfire needs a fuel filter. Whats happening is it will go so fast until its getting asked to provide more fuel pressure from your peddle but seeing as you have gunk impeding said fuel pressure you can't provide the engine with what it needs to go faster....AKA fuel! Im one hundred percent sure of this one and if im wrong ill never answer another Yahoo Q&A again.

My son has a 97 sun fire, he had something similar, I found the gas pedal line from the engine through the firewall to the pedal was about to break. You can check this very easily, have someone look when you accelerate your gas pedal. I could only find the cable at the dealership, this is a very common item to replace according the junk yards and dealerships.

Also replace your fuel filter to make sure its not that, most are under $10.00 and very easy to replace, yours should be located on the passengers side behind the rear wheel towards the back of the trunk area underneath the car.

I agree that it is the fuel filter but how bout some preventative maintenance int the future. I have found a fuel additive called xft that will keep your fuel system clean. I use it regularly and have also seen an increase in my fuel mileage.

Sounds like a high speed miss-fire. Try taking it to just about any major automotive parts store and ask them to connect a scan tool to the diagnostic port. This will extract the trouble codes from the computer. You can then use the Internet to look-up these trouble codes to help isolate the problem.

One issue is the age of the vehicle. The computers used before the more ODB II computers are not as powerful. You will get less information form them. But it may give you a starting point.

Another thought. When was the last time this car had a full tune up? Plugs, wires, filters, etc. A neglected engine won't run well.
