95 Pontiac Sunfire?

My 1995 Pontiac Sunfire will not shift or go over 30 mph unless pushed to about 5000 rpms. The speedometer reads 0 mph. We tried putting transmission fluid in (it worked for a little bit...until arriving at a stop sign). Any thoughts?

Hmm...I had a pontiac before. There may be a leak in the engine, and try tuning it up. Also try coolent- but I had a gas leak, thats why it may stop at stop signs. Make sure theres alot of water too, always keep water in the trunk in jugs. Change the oil, too.

check for codes and or speed senser. I belive a senser tells the computer how fast the car is going and when to change gears. If the senser is bad this can't happen

If the fluid is full sounds like a bad transmission not good at all
