Good Morning!

Considering buying a 95 Sunfire with 53k miles on it. One owner, little old lady.

Doing research, I am coming across some negative reviews and of course, this forum.

Trying not to psyche myself out but I thought I would ask your input.

What can I expect if I buy this car? What should I keep an eye on once I buy it?

I have attached a picture of it for reference.

I appreciate any info you guys can give, thanks!

Gary

Not much anybody can tell you from that one picture. Inspect the frame for excessive rust. Try to get maintenance records. Make sure all controls and accessories work. Have the car checked by a shop for any problems before buying it. Run a CarFax report. Are you buying it from the owner, the picture looks like a dealer parking lot?

My friend works at a dealer and this is being bought wholesale price of $1500. Its pristine, always garaged.

I attached the pic just so you can see the body style. It is working perfect mechanically, I am just trying to anticipate any problem areas in the near future.

That price is extremely low if you mean that is what you are paying for it. Have them pressure test the cooling system to make sure you dont have any leaks in particular a head gasket.

Looks like a fair deal for the money. Kelly blue book rates it at $1681 in excellent condition. Keep this in mind when buying it and sinking money into it.

The only way this car would be worth investing money into is if you drive and enjoy it. you will never get the money you invest in it by reselling it.

You have to consider a car like this a payment saver. if you were to drive a new car with a 400 per month payment it would only take 4 months of trouble free driving for the car to pay for itself since you wouldn't have payments. any time you get after 3 months would be like driving a free car if it stays trouble free.

Adding money to this car to make it road worthy will just extend the amount of time you need to drive the car trouble free to get back your investment.

With the low miles comes problems from sitting. make sure the brake fluid is fresh and clean, test it for water or just flush the brake system out.

Same goes with the transmission fluid check it, if it looks or smells questionable change it.

Look over all the belts and hoses if any of them look dry rotted replace them and the thermostat Like melsg5 mentioned have the cooling system pressure tested.

Check the tires and spare tire to make sure they are not dry rotted. if it has a spare check the condition and air pressure plus make sure you have a jack and lug nut wrench.

Do not worry too much about negative reviews each car you read about will not be the same as the one your looking at.

This being said if you go by only what you can read on Car complaints the 1995 Sunfire is a great car.

Now that you looked at the 1995 Sunfire check out the worst rated with most complaints for comparison the Explorer makes this Sunfire look like a perfect car to buy.

If your not mechanically inclined have a pre inspection done to the car like melsg5 suggest even a good deal can sink you financially if you invest too much into repairs.
