Hey guys, I'm helping a buddy swap motors from a 99 sunfire to a 97 sunfire. We noticed that the knock sensor is different for both motors, and we're wondering if any of y'all have any ideas on how we can adapt the sensor so that the 96 sensor with fit into the 99 engine. Both engines are the 2.4l 4 cylinder engines. Any advice or help is appreciated, thank you for the help! - Addison

Hi first off the title to your post says 1996 to 1999 yet you describe swapping over the knock sensor from a 1999 to a 1997.

I looked up all three years knock sensors and they all have the exact same part number from Napa

from the Napa website
Detonation Knock Sensor
Part Number: DKS223
Product Line: Echlin Ignition Parts

they also have the same one wire connector available for all three 1996 97 and 1999 Sunfires

Detonation Knock Sensor Connector
Part Number: EC497
Product Line: Echlin Ignition Parts
IMPORTANT INFO: Female Type;w/ 1 Terminal;Black

this leads me to believe that the part in question is not a knock sensor you are looking at.

To avoid confusion make sure what year the car your working on is and what year the motor came from.

also take pictures of the two sensors and their connectors in question make sure to include in the pictures a good shot of the connections and where they are located on each motor so we can try and help you out.

Attached is a picture of what the knock sensor looks like and one for the replacement connector.

if you are switching motors why are you even removing any sensors?
did you get the wire harness from the donor car?
did you get the ecm from the donor car?
