I have a 96 Grand Am with the 2.4 and 5 speed. 165,000 miles. The instrument cluster is toast. All of the lights on the dash are lit and none of the gages work. I had it in a shop and they said the cluster needs replaced. I'm having trouble finding another one. Is there a place that repairs them? I also have a problem that just started. The engine fan quit working. I haven't had a chance to test it to see if the fan is bad or if the relay went south. Is there a way to wire the fan so it will run any time the engine is on? With the instrument cluster gone, I can't even watch the temp gage to see it getting hot. I need to find out where the fan relay is, so I can swap it with another one and see if it makes a difference. The car did not come with an owners manual, so I don't have that to look in. I saw on some of the threads where they said the fan was controlled by the computer. I hope that isn't the problem. The salvage yard I talked to, said the 96 was a stand alone year and the clusters from any other year wouldn't work and they said the same thing about the engine. Were they correct? So far, I've only talked to 1 salvage yard in my area. Any suggestions?
