I recently bought a 96 GT Sunfire cheap hoping to fix it cheap and easy and still have a good car. My wife loves these sunfires and begged me to get it for her. This has a 2.4 liter with automatic. The car always starts up fine and idles fine no matter how long it has been sitting, at least until it has warmed up. My problem seems to be in acceleration. Under normal acceleration and sometimes just putting it in gear the car wants stumble and die, sometimes backfiring through the intake. If I can get the RPM up it has lots of power and runs strong. Ever since I bought it there has been both a crank shaft sensor code and cam shaft sensor code. Both have been replaced and the codes always come back. I have also replaced the coil packs; even though they checked good with an ohm meter there were signs of excessive heat build up around the coil and arcing across to the metal plates. The car did sit over this last winter and the problem supposedly started this spring when they went to start it. It had only about a 1/8 tank of fuel so I filled it up and added Lucas treatment to it.
I think I have covered everything, please help!!
