Have a 1996 Sunfire GT 2.4 that started sputtering during cold start. If i immediately shut it off, and then restart, it starts up just fine. I am thinking it is possibly loosing the fuel prime. Yet does not always have problem. Seems to be worse when outdoor ambient air is hotter. (90deg F) Sunfire does not have fuel line tap to check actual pressure. At least cannot find one? Not sure if problem could be in regulator or if possibly in fuel pump check valve within fuel tank. Really do not want to just change fuel pump unless know if source of problem. big job.
Car runs fine and normal power /acceleration once started. Also no engine fault codes with OBDII. I currently turn on key and wait before starting. Assume fuel pump runs to buld pressure. Cannot hear the pump if running before staring car.
Note engine wiil start fine a couple hours after shut-off. Yet after 8+ hour work day or over night, it will sputter. Is there a way to add a check valve without replacing the fuel pump? If so, part number? Someone suggested changing fuel filter but engne runs fine once started.
