I have a question about the alignment of the rear cover for the rear main seal. I had to remove the cover due to previous owner left bolts lose after install and seal was leaking from the cover plate and rear main seal. I have everything apart obviously all cleaned up and ready to go I have the factory install tool for the seal itself. The new seal I bought has a plastic insert on the inside of it to get on the factory install tool I have to remove it the seal says install dry do I need to live anything the factory tool says to lightly oil the in and od of seal before install. Also my main question how do I line up the cover. All data says to use a straight edge and a feeler gauge but I don't have a straight edge. Any help would be appreciated I'm trying to get this nocked out of the way today.

These instructions say basically the same thing. You dont have a ruler or anything that is perfectly straight?

I'm sure that I do somewhere if not I'm sure I can come up with one. Does thickness of the ruler matter. I think the factory bolts have plastic around the top that puts them in the correct place atleast that's what the ones look like that I pulled out.

Seems like the straightness of the edge is the concern not the thickness
