I have a 97 Grand Am 4-cylinder. Sometimes when I start it up the engine stays on until I put it in gear and then it dies. Other times when I put it in gear it hesitates really bad and then if i press the gas pedal real hard it stops. This doesnt happen all the time but usually seems like it happens when it is really hot outside. When I am going speeds from 50 to 60 mph it hesitates a little bit as its accelerating. Its does this always. Any help would be much appreciated.

how many miles since the car had a tuneup, plugs, filters, etc?

have been fighting a simular problem with my 87 pontiac grand am 4tec engine with electronic fuel injection............it starts right up when cold but as the engine idles down if i push slightly on the gas it will stall and then hard to start .......... i use starter fluid at this point. If i let it alone after start and warm up until temp reads 160 degrees is runs fine. Also if i turn it off and it cools down same thing won't start without starter fluid and I must let it warm all the way up to run fine again. Last shop checked sensors and change one but is better but still this problem.............Read more at http://www.pontiacforum.com/pontiac/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=45954&kcplink=1
