Okay, so I am sure that it is the passlock system. But the issue now is that doing the relearn procedure does not make the security indicator turn off. I have tried the 10 minute, and 15 minute wait with the key in the ON position. The security light stays illuminated adn the car will produce no spark. Have tested the ICM and the coil packs and crank position sensor one more time just to make sure that they arent to blame for the no start and they all checked out as good.

I have also tried the passlock bypass mentioned here ( I cant use the resistance off of my key bc the little resistor pellet has never been in the key since i got it and has never been an issue until now) http://www.kingbain.com/how-to-permanently-disable-gm-passlock-system/ also used this one after getting the resistor code from the previous help page didnt work http://www.bergerweb.net/PasslockFix/

Using the meter and taking a reading from the key side of the yellow passlock wire i got 520 ohms, tried using that resistor value but got no start. then tried the generic 2.2k ohm method and same thing, no start.

the relearn procedure is not making the security light go out no matter how long leave the key in the ON position. Again, do not have a chipped key and has never needed one to start.

am going to check to make sure the wires from the ignition are connected well to the passlock system. any help would be greatly appreciated. am a student trying to get transportation working again.

ok not sure if you have figured it out yet but I was given a no start car for free with the same issue and after reading tons of bad advise for days I did my own digging. you have a passlockI system there is no pellet in your key and never was. the pellet is a resistor and it resides in your dash cluster. if you tried the reading the ohns at the key cylinder and all the by pass stuff but still no go then there is one option only. since you checked all the obvious sensors and relays and all that what it boils down to is this PasslockI is a circuit in your dash cluster it is for the most part not repairable when it goes out you need to replace the cluster I know this sounds like BS but believe me that's the answer, be ware of online adds for rebuilt clusters, the rebuilders of those fix light bulbs and gauges only. if you ask them about the pass lock circuit and they will look at you like your crazy . so all you can do is buy a new cluster or try a junk yard one. I was lucky I found one on ebay for $39.00 and the seller said if Passlock was bad I could send it back and try again. if the cluster you buy is good its a simple install and you do the relearn thing and it ill .

My Sunfire was hotwired because the previous owner installed an aftermarket radio. I installed the original radio and tried the relearn procedure. Car still would not start. Someone online suggested I disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to reset the car's computer. I did and then tried the relearn procedure and it started. This may or may not help you.

go to this link http://www.j-body.org/faq//98/ and make sure you follow this procedure. if you still cant get it to relearn im telling you its the dash cluster. there is no body control module as many people will tell you there is. everything that has anything to do with the security system / learn / fuel cut off/ spark cut off/ crank sensor cut off/ is in the cluster circuit board.

sorry you will have to go old school and cut and paste the web address

good luck
