98-02 Firebird WS6 vs Camaro SS...and fuel pump issue?

Hello, i have two quick questions to ask.

1. I just sold my old V6 Camaro, and now i'm looking at buying a older 5.7L V8 Firebird or Camaro. I know they are pretty much exactly the same, but which one has the upper hand when it comes to reliability and speed (power)?

2. I've been reading alot about fuel pump issues on firebirds and Camaros. I, unfortuanatley, had to pay like 800 to get mine replaced in my 02 Camaro. I'm not going to lie, i will from time to time, play with that V8 once i get it; but ultimately i'm asking, is that just the way it is because of the crap fuel pumps inside of those Fbody vehicles, or is it because they usually arn't taken care of?

They are the same so how can one have better reliability and speed than the other? Since you are talking about used cars the important factor is the way the previous owner maintained the car and can he prove his maintaince claims.
I believe the fuel pump issue may extend beyond just F-bodies and one factor may be if you let the car run out of gas.
