Friend has a sunfire that she took to get gas. Turned it off and when she went to turn it over and it wouldn't crank. I asked her if it started with the command start and it did. It's an auto, she was able to turn the key to the on position press the brake and change gears and take off. So she's been starting it with the command start since. I figured it was the ignition switch. So she got that changed out and still won't turn over with the key

Does anyone have any ideas on what to check?

is the check engine light on or the security light? Why would a shop change the ignition switch without confirming what the problem really is?

Neither are on.

Ignition switch was a guess of mine because I have a 98 grand prix that had the same problem. Would start with command start but not the key. Took apart the ignition switch and cleaned it and it started with the key.

It wasn't a shop it was a friend, and he agreed with me that It might be. Cost them 10 bucks.

Can I assume someone checked for blown fuses, otherwise it has to be something between the ignition switch and the starter solenoid but cannt pinpoint it over internet. The car has a factory installed remote or aftermarket?

Follow the starter wire from the ignition down to the point where the remote starter was installed, could be a loose connection depending on how it as installed.
