Alright guys (and/or gals) im having a problem with my 98 firebird. I went to pick up my wife from church the other night and i got there fine. When i went to crank up to leave and head home it just turned but wouldnt start. I got a ride home and the next day went back and cranked right up. Brought it home and later went to a store, soon as i got into the parking lot it died. Turned over but wouldnt start. So it seems to me that its having trouble when warm. possibly. When it cools it starts right up. Temperature gauge isnt high, just normal operating temp. Whats it seem like to you guys? im thinking it seems like a fuel delivery problem, maybe a fuel pump going bad, or maybe fuel filter. whats your guys opinion. Thanks alot guys i dont have alot of money to be bringing my car to the shop, and i need my transportation going.

sounds electrical to me, a bad pump usually just stops working, you can do a fuel pressure test to check it. Drive it around take it home and see if you can duplicate the problem. If you do, check if you have spark and check the fuel pressure.

Coils when they get warm sometimes they won't work from what I have seen try replacing those

I have been having this same problem for the past 3 months - still can't find the problem. Today I drove for only about 10 minutes to the store and it would not restart when I got back in. Could it have anything to do with the alarm system? After a few hours it started up fine.

electric fuel pumps in the tank are subject to over heating like any electric motor. the pump can bind up when it is hot and work when it cools down. on the older cars with the in tank fuel pump , if you turn the key to the on position you used to be able to hear the fuel pump turn on and prime. if you run the car low on fuel allot the pump gets hot,( the cooling media is the gas in the tank.) it can shorten the life of the fuel pump. every once in a while you could get away just give the gas tank a good stiff hit and the pump will turn on.
