98 Grand Am Rear Coil Spring Lower support broken

Hi everyone, I have a 2 door 98 grand am gt, with 42k miles. The lower support bracket for the left rear coil spring rusted through and broke away. It looks like the rear axle has to be replaced to repair this. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Anyone ever replaced the rear axle? Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I ended up purchasing a junkyard rear axle and swapping it out with the old one. Not too hard of a job, just about 4 hours start to finish. The only snag was some rusted out brake lines which I was able to replace with a new set.
