my 98 sunfire when i step on the brake it seems to grab hard in the rear almost throws you throught the window if you hit them fast.Has new pads all around and drums seem to look fine.any ideas?

Inspect the rear brakes for contaminants - grease, brake fluid, etc. - these can cause grabby brakes.

Were the drums turned for the brake job? If not, should the lining width be wider on the new set, could have some wedging issues.

The fact that work has recently been done on the brakes leads the workmanship to be highest on the list of possible causes.

If you had a shop do this work - take it back and proceed through the following steps until corrective action on their part is taken - 1) Be nice, 2) Be stern, 3) Get ugly.

These cars had some issues with brake grab and noise in the rear brakes ..
does the noise and grabbing go away after a few stops ??
there may be an adjustment issue also were the parking brake cables checked when the brakes were done ? to make sure nothing is hanging up or putting tension on them , the drums should have been turned reguardless of the condition as they will have warn to the pattern of the last set of pads
I know it's an extra cost but it needs to be done if it has not I would bet that is the problem..
