Just replaced front pads on 99 Montana. On right side one pad was worn down completely thru pad to bare metal. Other side had wear but not as much as the passenger side. On last reline replaced all rubber sleeves which are on the caliper and surround the slider pins. Cleaned and relubricated with caliper grease. On a hard stop noticed that the right front brake apparently locked and wheel scraped rubber with car still traveling at about 30 MPH. Other brakes did not lock. The brakes on this Montana have been less than great since I bought the car new. Rear brakes are drum brakes and were relined several years ago.
Do not see any reason that the right front wheel should lock.
Ideas?

assuming it is properly lubed and the piston freely moved when you replaced pads check for a possible internally collapsed rubber brake hose.

pads

were the old pads changed at the same time? did the brakes work well(not spongy or low the the floor) before you noticed the latest problem, would like to rule out bleeding or individual brake pad replacement, how are the rotors? is the rubber around the caliper moving parts in one piece? good luck

Right front brakes were very worn this time

Have changed brake pads several times. Have alway cleaned and lubricated the slider pins. About a year ago did the brakes again and noticed the rubber boots over the sliding pins were deteriorated. Replaced them, relubricated pins and replaced pads. Recently heard metal to metal scraping on rotor of right wheel.
Removed pads and saw a lot of wear on the right passenger wheel. Relubed slider pins and replaced pads on both wheels. The driver's side pads were worn but not as much as the passenger side. In the past both sides were worn pretty much evenly. Rotors are OK. Brakes on this car have always been a little on the spongy side even when the car was new.
What is new is the wearing down of the pads on the passenger side more than the driver's side and the occasional locking up of the passenger side wheel but only with extreme or very hard braking. Does not do this on normal braking.

and the brake hoses are original?

your left caliper may be hanging up and the right one is doing all the work.

Hoses are original but appear to be in good shape

As I indicated have replaced the pads several times and have always cleaned and relubricated the slider pins with caliper grease. Brake hoses original but do not seem deteriorated. Many years ago had a Chrysler caliper piston hang up after the caliper was "rebuilt" by a tire and brake repair shop. When it hung up it wore excessively on the sticking caliper and destroyed the pads in a few months. Solution then was replace the caliper. When this occured the car pulled in the direction of the sticking caliper.
My brakes do not pull to either side when not braking, with light braking, or with hard stop braking but run straight and level at all speeds.
The pins seemed to operate smoothly after relubricating with caliper grease.
It is possible that the piston might be hanging up but the braking under most conditions seems normal.
Replaced pads with semi-metallic ones about a month ago. Have been using semi-metallic pads for over 10 years. Put 4 new tires on the car last week. Still don't have an answer for the break wear on the passenger side or for it sometimes locking under panic braking.

you can not see a collapsed hose from the outside, they are 15 years old, and if you have ever seen old brake fluid that turned black alot of that is the seals and interior of the hoses.
