99 Pontiac Grand Am really high RPM?

I will start my car and the RPMS run really high and basically without putting my foot on the accelerator I can get up to high as 40 mph. This is random I'll start it other times and the RPM's are fine, it is random and I am totally puzzled. Help, what is wrong?

ck engine lite on? free scan most any auto prts store
acc pedal stuck on rug?
throttle plat sticking in throttle body..[ive had mine cleaned twice..no wonder GM is circling the drain. may b .faulty TPS throddle position sensor

your idle is set to high take it to the shop they will fix it
