I have a Montana w/ 135k miles with an intermittent shifting issue. I have changed the filter and had the flush done still the problem remains and continues to get worse. It happens only when up-shifting (not slipping, not missing) but shift very hard into gears, engine temperature is at normal operation. It also makes a whining noise ONLY when the car is going to start this problem. Any ideas? I know there is a computer in this transmission could this be it or could there be something else?
The fluid levels are are with in proper operating levels.
also I can turn off the engine and restart it and the problem go away for a few miles then it will start again

Check the fluid level both cold and hot and then again when it starts the whining noise. I suspect that either you have a situation causing fluid cavitation or possibly there is an issue with the valve body affecting the line pressure and resulting in the harsh shifts.

Congratulations on getting that many miles out of an automatic transmission! You could review the GM service bulletins and other owner complaints below
