So my car has been giving off just a touch of white smoke on cold start but after about five minutes of running the smoke cuts out and I'm good to go again. I know that white smoke usually means that you are burning antifreeze but I highly doubt I have a blown head gasket, engine runs way to strong for that. then again I could be wrong.

Opinions, please?

85 SE 2.5L 5-spd 200K+ (actual mileage unknown)

modifications aware of is cold air intake, exhaust is off a GT. MSD ignition, everything else as far as I'm aware of is stock. (engine compartment)

(I am still going to do an engine swap I just don't have the funds so I need this car to run until then, wife's making me buy a house first... :()

sounds like normal cold start condensation

thanks melsg5 I always get nervous about stuff like that and I knew that it's probably just your standard issue cold start but I guess I still need to hear it from someone else.

I agree with melsg5. It is normal start up condensation.

If it was a head gasket or other internal coolant leak, It would happen more after the engine warms up when the cooling system pressure increases forcing the coolant thru the leak.

while that may be the case, another idea to throw out there would be valve seals leaking by a bit...but smoke from that normally dont last any longer than the first few seconds of running. both chevy trucks i own do this a start up with the oldest one being the worse, it has 300,000 on it compared to 130,000 on the other. maybe its not a bad idea to get a valve job done, wouldnt hurt and you could check for cracks while its off. i am VERY new to these cars being that i own one and wont get to see if for a month because im deployed, but i have done all the reading i can stand online about the car and its history. so im excited to throw my ASE knowledge at these cars and see what happens...lol
