Correct me if I am wrong. There is a small spring that kicks the key out of the starter motor
position and then back to the run position when I let go of the key? If so then there is a minor problem with the ignition switch. When I start my 2008 Pontiac Torrent, the starter motor stays on and engaged with the engine while the engine is running. When I manully move the key from the start position to the run position the starter motor disengages and shuts down. I can hear that action in the drivers seat taking place. I have changed out the ignition switch in a 1967 Chey 1/2 ton pickup. But that was before the age of computers and other the other types of gadgets that they put on cars now.
