Abs bleeding problem

Hi everyone. So I have a 2002 Montana and a brake line blew. Took me about 2 weeks before I changed the brake line then replaced a caliper after I snapped off the bleeder. So by the time I got around to it, pretty much all the fluid was gone. Now I went around and bled all the wheels and still have no brakes. Did some research and found its probably the abs since my fluid was so low. Anyway, my question is. Is there a way to bleed this out without the scan tool? I read about going on a back road and keep jacking on the brakes but with the abs light on will that even work? Also I bled the brakes and have a full master cylinder and the brake light is still on and the low brake fluid warning. Any advice?
 
Hmm did you replace the master cylinder/ did you bench bleed it? I would get a scanner to the car and scan for abs code and see where it points. the abs won't engage with a problem. What I've done in the past is jacked the front up, stuck it in gear, and hit the brakes that way. It would be the same thing as the field test but you would be safe since you didn't drive it.
 
Only thing I changed was the brake line between the rear tires and the front left caliper. Abs light used to come on once in awhile. I have an obd 2 scanner but it doesn't show any problems
 
Master cylinder did go completely dry tho

1. Bleed the master
2. Try bleeding the wheels with the key in the run position and the ABS fuse pulled.
 
Bench bleed it. You'll have to take it off and get some tubes to connect those 2 lines out to the reservoir above. Then get a screw driver and pump the piston. This is easiest on a table mounted vice. There are videos on youtube about this.
 
with the age of the master combined with running it dry, the seals on the pistons maybe damaged due to the piston moving completely down the bore of the master. Bench bleed it and then close the two ports and apply pressure to see if it holds.

well that took care of the low brake fluid and the brake light. stops a little bit better. still air in there somewhere tho....

go to harbor freight they have a break bleeder that you use with a compressor
 
Luckily for my wallet I do not have a harbor freight anywhere close. I have one of those syringe bleeder things and I been pondering for awhile now if it would work if I took off the brake lines on the abs box and bled back up through the master cylinder if that would do anything. Or would that be pointless without being able to cycle the valves
 
Still no luck getting the abs light off. Pulled off all the connectors I could find and cleaned them up. Checked for broken wires between them all. Wheel bearings were just changed probably not even 6 months ago.
 
if you have an ohmmeter check the sensors about 1000 to 1500 ohms is normal

Wish I could limp it over to autozone but they are only halfway through building it :(
 
autozone does not do ABS codes to my knowledge. That requires an advanced scan tool that they typically do not use
 
So I found no problems anywhere. Could it be the wheel sensors are just dirty? But they are built into the wheel bearing so is it possible to even clean them or would my resistance test have shown me that was ok? I also tried jacking up the front and slamming on the brakes several times. Unhooking battery hoping for it to reset. Pulled off and checked all the connectors from the wheels up to the module and checked continuity between all of them. Btw, you guys are being awesome. Thank you so much :)
