Hi my son has bought a 2001 montana and we have tried to replace the stock radio with three seperate radio. He has bought the adapter kit and matched up the wires but the radio doesnt work. I seems to get power, when the eject or display is pressed it lights up and shows time, if it is left on the time does changebut cannot power it on to swtich between radio, cd etc.

Did the stock radio work? Did the aftermarket radios come with instructions?

Sounds like you hooked up the memory power only. The main power should be on switched 12volts, and the memory power should be on normally available (non-switched) 12volts. Also, make sure your ground is secured to a known solid ground.

Would you test that on a multimeter to see if the cable is hooked up to the right one from the harness?

I just installed an aftermarket stereo in my 2001 Montana. The OEM Radio harness does not provide switched +12 to the Radio. I guess the OEM stereo reads the ignition switch in an alternate way.

You can use the battery +12 in the OEM harness for both the battery +12 and the +12 switched power. That would mean that you need to power the stereo on an off each time you start and stop the car.

What I did was find an ignition controlled lead on the back of the passenger compartment fuse block. There is a thick blue wire going to one terminal of fuse #10 that is not used in my vehicle. It has switched power +12. Since it is not used, you could clip it from the fuse block and run a lead to the +12 switched on your radio. They also have fuses that are designed to fit into the socket and give you a secondary fused connection from the front of the fuse block. You can find these at any automotive store.

I forgot to mention that this switched power source is a part of the Retained Accessory Power system. That means that the radio will stay on until you open the door.
