I was looking at the top of my air filter box and noticed a restrictive cloth mat across the air box. I cut in to it and found small pellets (maybe carbon). I would like to cut this out to free up the air flow and perhaps improve mpg.

I am a long time hot rodder and understand air flow restrictions cost horsepower. I guess my question is has any one cut this cloth off and if so did it send an engine light.

I guess someone else has to answer the engine light question. As far as air restriction and your best gas mileage, it will not be at high engine speeds where air flow restriction causes an issue.

Well I cut out the cloth and my engine runs better with a slight increase in MPG. No engine light

i did that and its all good
