I'm the biggest idiot when it comes to cars, so if any of you guys can help out, that would be grand.

Got a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am. Battery went dead on me. Had a buddy help me jump it.

NOW though, the alarm goes off everytime I open the driver-side door. It honks for about 10 seconds, then stops.

The problem began when I unlocked the door manually the other night shortly after giving the vehicle power (from the jump).

Maybe this is the issue...the car reacted to the key being manually used to open the door...? If so, that's fine, I just want to find out how to fix it.

There MUST be a simple solution to this problem. Any suggestions/advice??

have you tried using the key to lock the door and then go back to using the remote?

Check your owners manual for the alarm system if you don't have one do a search on the web. I had a similar problem with a Saab 9000S I owned years ago. I locked my doors using my remote and broke the remote. When I used my key to open the door my alarm would go off. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. I found instruction online that called for me to close all my doors and insert my key into the driverside door so many times in 4 seconds to reset the system.
