alittle shaking of steering wheel at 30-40mph

Hey guys I have a 96 firebird

was just wondering if anyone knew about or if anyone else was having a shaking problem in the steering at certain speed ...the shaking is mainly only in the steering wheel can barely feel it but its thre.....at 30-40mph....its just at this speed..

I switched out some things and it is better but still feel it around those speeds.

any advice would be nice! thanks
 
After replacing parts, did you get an alignment?

Could be anything (tires, wheels, alignment, etc. etc.) but without further info it's hard to say for sure.
 
Ok srry...i should of been more specific....

it has new tires , the alignment seems to be fine...doesnt pull to one side or the other.

The problem i was having before was the engine was running really rough making the car shake.. replaced a valve on the exhaust manifold and all the coils....gave tune up....it runs alot smoother.

The shaking problem between 30-40mph is only thre when i press the gas....at that speed i let the car coast and no shaking at all.. until i pressed the gas again. I even tried to test it in 2nd gear....to see if maybe it had to do something with the transmission in a specific gear. The problem occurs no matter what gear as long as gas is pressed and only at 30-40 mph.

I hope i explained it alittle better...haha....thnx for all the help guys:D

It can be a outer tie rod end doing this. They have a tendency to get loose in the joint with higher mileage. I would suspect that if it were a transmission concern you'd feel more of a shudder instead of a vibration.

You can't rule out tires either. It's hard to say without actually riding in it.....
 
A few things come to mind.
It could be a misfire caused by a bad ignition coil.
It may be in the transmission and or clutch, You did/nt say if it was an auto or manual trans.
It could be a u-joint.
Check to be certain all plug wires on fully down on the plugs and coils.
You may have to put the car on a rear wheel dyno and duplicate the condition and watch the engine analyzer. The fact it only does this a certain speed and only under accelration, may be hard to pin down, unless it's something obvious, without useing the dyno and analyser.

would a tie rod still be causing the problem under accelleration?

also i replaced all the coils!

lol had to ask whats the difference between a shudder and vibration!! haha:confused:

shudder is whole car shaking?
vibration...a noise?...

It's your tires. Get new ones and it should solve your problem.

You would feel shudder as more of a harsh vibration throughout the whole car, and its more severe than a vibration. A tie rod would most definantly be more noticable under acceleration.
 
Usually at that speed the thing to look for is an out of balance tire. You said the tires are new. Were they balanced? Check to see if the weights are still there. Could be they are the same weights from the old tires.
Jack up the car and spin the wheel. Does the wheel show any wobble? Pull on the wheel. How does it feel? Maybe wheel bearings need adjustment.
If it happens at speeds closer to 50MPH look at the ball joints.
