alt. problem w/ '84 fiero

I installed a refurbished alt. from pepboys and when I start the car I hear a loud screeching noise and the pulley on the alt. is hot as hell. Bearings or something? Thanks.

Yeah, I'm going to do that. I know it's the bearings as the pulley got so hot it started smoking and melted off the v-belt.

it definitly sounds like bearings. id buy a new one if possible. but even then ive seen some bearings bad.

Yeah, well the alt was refurbished and it was the economy (cheap) brand. I upgraded to an alt that has a lifetime warranty and was $25 more so...we'll see.

edit: I'll see if they can bench test it before it gets to me.

It was the bearings. Apparently the alt. wasn't tested before packaging
