Pontiac Grand Am? I have a 99 Grand Am, and I need to fill it with collant. Its says on the manual that I need to put "DEX-COOL" collant. But, I just bought Prestone Collant at Wal-Mart. Is that ok to use?
As long as you completely flush the cooling system, it doesn't really matter which coolant you use. The big thing to remember is you just can't mix the dex-cool with the standard green antifreeze.
Alot of shops are just flushing the Dex. out of the system and using green because of the cost difference.
You should definetly use dex, but some of the prestone anti freeze is compatible with dex, before you take it back make sure you read the back of the jug.
