Are the early 3.1 reliable engines?

Looking into buying a 92 sunbird convertible with 95k miles and it has the 3.1 engine.

I know people generally say this engine is a good engine. But I know for many years, this engine is know for failing intake manifold gasket.

My question is, was this the case in 92, or is it just the same as the later years? I've heard this problem didn't start until 94, but I figured you guys were the ones to ask.

This is essentially a temporary car, so I'm not buying it to dump money into it, so I really want to avoid a headache vehicle

So what is the consensus on the 92 3.1 in the sunbird? And any other things I should look out for?

the years know for this are 96 to 03 but it doesn't hurt to check for leaks when you look at the car. Nothing unique to look for otherwise same as any other used car.
