Are there any differences between the 1986 Pontiac Fiero FWD 2.5L Iron Duke Block

and the 1991 version of same? Im helping someone rebuild their Cutlass Ciera, and a 1986 Pontiac Fiero Block (Disassembled) was found. i am wondering if it will fit the applcation, INTo the 1991 Calais, it is the same Transmission too.

there are several differences between the two. I don't believe you can enter change parts but I very well could be way off key. With this I tell you wait and your question should be answered when the Guru gets here. :cool:


I always wanted to say something like that. Kinda fun from my end but it probably won't sound the same to you like it did in my head.
 
Missed it by a year. The 1987 2.5L uses a slightly different head. The good news is the blocks are almost the same. So if you use the head, exhaust manifold and intake manifold from the same design it will bolt up to any block. While blocks have different castings, The FWD are all drilled for the same bolt patterns. The only thing I don't remember is if you can mix distributor/DIS versions of the engine. 1987 and newer us DIS ignition and I don't remember if GM used a plug for the distributor or cast the hole closed.
