bad starting

It is a Quadrajet and you will need to get a rebuild kit, there are no new carburetors that are the exact same one.
The plugs could have been for emission purposes, evaporation canister for example.
The cable should be above the exhaust.

thanks for that is it a dificult job to rebuilt this carb and setting it up or is there a how to on this forum

Scot , that carb looks like it seen better days..............:(

I like how the muffler clamp holds the EBrake cable up......

Some show above the pipes, others under.

I remember those cars ( Trans Am's and Z28's) had real small mufflers , not full size like yours. They were mounted further back, you can see it in one of the pics fom the 78TA link.

An Olds or Buick Qjet off a 77 -80 350 is the same size with the front fuel inlet. ( but wont be "numbers matching " )

www.car-part.com list 3 270's and alot of 272's

Unless you have access to a bead blaster, that carb isnt worth saving, unless you send it to a carb resto shop.

The aluminum and steel needs alot of work to look new again. No telling what it looks like on the inside.......................

Better off getting a replacement or rebuilt carb. ( IMO)

ok guys recon carb has just arrived today and off course question time. i have now got one with an automatic choke but noticed there is a ternimal on there that requires a spade connector to go on it with me having a manual choke i have nothing to plug onto this connector so my question is where does the wire goto if i made one up to connect to this ternimal on the side of the carb

also have noticed on recon carb there are no blanking grommets on it and the ones on my old carb are pretty well perished where can i buy new please

cheers again
scot

1. You have to run a wire from the choke coil to a hot source that is only active when the key is in the run position. If this carburetor uses an idle solenoid you can tap in to that wire. Another possibility is the power wire to the wiper motor. You could also run a wire all the way back to the fuse box. Just remember hot only with the key in run.
2. I'm unclear as to what a blanking grommet is?
