i have a 92 sunbird 3.1 i have a new battery and altenator and i got the battery tested cause it keeps dieing n its supposed to push out 650 n its pushing out 1381 anyone no y it would push out more then double

what does 650 and 1381 n mean. Batteries are rated by cold cranking amps. If your battery is going dead check for a electrical load on the battery when the engine is off using a voltmeter. In addition check the alternator output when running using the voltmeter.

Sounds like a 12 volt short somewhere.

Like the admin said, make sure the battery is fully charged ( 13-14 volts) then turn everything off , hook up the digtital voltmeter on the battery and watch the voltage .

If you have a short, then the voltage will drop a little at a time and not stop.

Check your battery cables ( especially the postive) could be frayed and touching.

If someone added anything aftermarket (stereo, alarm, etc) check the wiring to them also.

Last resort would be the starter,it could be bad internally.

With the car on and running you should have at least 13.5 volts tested at the battery.
