Could smell the belt getting hot and it than broke. I replaced it and with seconds it started smoking again. I ran my hand the length of the belt and couldn't feel where it maybe rubbing. I can see its on the inner half of the belt. Any ideas????

Had a regal burn a belt but the water pump siezed up. Just to be sure pull the belt and spin by hand all ur pulleys . back a couple years ago my 2000 Montana belt tension pully seized up and threw the belt. If yours is rubbing on the edge then something Haas to be mis allighned? Perhaps the belt tensioner pulley? But that does not have sides , but the alternator does, maybe the bearings are going out of it? Well once u take the belt off and spin each one it may be obvious. Good luck and keep us informed.

The wife reminded me that it was squeaking the last week. I thought it was because it was wet from all the snow we have had. I don't know if that helps. Thanks steel I will check all the pulleys.

Thats how my 2000 problem started with a chirping noise and I just ignored it until it threw the belt and the tension pulley seized and disintegrated , then it was the "olde shoe leather express".

idler pulley.....the lower one by the crankshaft and a/c was locked up. Note to self check all pulleys before just replacing the belt. Thanks for all the help.

good find. What u going to do about the ac ? That was always one of my fears about a serpentine belt system since I keep my cars till the wheels fall off. I would think there is a way to get a shorter belt and re-route to bypass the ac ?

I would think the belt manufacturers provide dimensions for their belts and you could measure the route without the A/C and pick one that way but I have never pursued that idea to see if it would work.
