Gonna replace tensioner soon and looks like it may be a bit of a challenger getting to with my big mits!

After taking off the upper engine mount, looks like I might be able to lower the engine enough to access the bolt.

Any suggestions or advice?

melsg5,

Yes, sunfire & Cav's are same for most part. But can't get a socket on bolt due to clearance between tensioner and uni-body. Thanks!

Anyone else?

you may need a angled box end wench..or you can pick up a serpentine belt removal tool and use that..

Ok folks, replaced the tensioner yesterday and it was a snap!

1. Place a jack under the engine and lift about an inch.
2. Remove the two bolts in the upper engine mount.
3. Use a second jack to jack up car & remove tire.
4. Remove inner-fender well skirts.
5. Use 15MM box end wrench to remove old tensioner and install new. (which
takes all of 5 minutes)

Spoke too soon melsg5!

Day after I replaced, notice smell of burning oil and then oil on the floor.

Checked and found a cut in the oil filter!!

Change step 1 of the process to;

REMOVE the oil filter, then lower the engine! There is a small metal bracket on the trans that is about
1/2" from the oil filter that it WILL HIT and CUT when you lower the engine!
