Belt Tensioner

I have a 2002 Montana 3.4, took off the tensioner last night, but the bolt wont go back in when reinstalling the new tensioner. I tried the old bolt and new bolt, it's like there's something in the hole stopping the bolt, but can not retrieve anything out of it even using a pick. Any suggestions?

using a lighted mechanics mirror check for an obstruction in the hole. If nothing found run a tap into the hole.
