I was just shopping for a new belt, and noticed that they have two different sizes depending on what kind of alternator you have. The belts are exactly one inch in length different, with the larger being for a 130 Amp alternator. Is there a way to tell what kind I have installed? I'm only the 3rd owner, but I do not know the service history except the owner did state that the alternator was replaced about 2 years ago.

Is one inch really that big of a deal, and should I just get the longer belt?

Thanks, but I'm not sure if that's going to help me since the Previous Owner could have installed something larger. I'll look at the belt to see if I can get the model number off of it.

thanks!

Not sure what site you are looking at but at the autozone site the two types of belts are based upon single AC system or dual AC system.

I'm looking at Autozone, Advanced Auto, Oreily's, and Rockauto, and they all call for different sized belts based on the size of the alternator.

I'm just curious if I can see the differences between the two alternators (preferably without removing it).

I should have mentioned, but didn't, but this is for a 2001 Pontiac Montana.
