Ok first ill explain what my 1997 firebird is doing and what i have done. Back in oct i noticed my brake lights were not working. Some how i had got away with no brake lights for two months. I changed a blown fuse and they worked 2 weeks later blown fuse. Then it did it again 3 times in a month. I always seemed to notice it during rain. So i just keep changing the fuses. In dec it would blow the fuse the second i tapped the brakes. Since it was cold and i live in the middle of no where i let it go till it warmed up. Since i had to go on a trip from kentucky to indiana i tried to solve the issue. I changed all 4 tail/ brake bulbs checked the sockets they all look clean undamaged. Checked all the wiring from the truck back and found no issues. None of the connectors look burnt or anything. When i changed the fuse they worked all lights and brake lights worked fine. Niether pumping nor holding the brakes down for 3 minutes caused any fuse to blow. Thinking i fixed it i put everything back together. Next morning i checked before heading to indiana and everything worked. 174 miles down the interstate my brake lights were out. Checked the fuse surpise surpise its blown. I go to slide one in and poof few sparks shot out. I thought it was the needle nose pliers and tried again by hand and got shocked. A few days later i put a fuse it and it blown sec i hit the brakes.
My tail lights turn signals all work with no issue. The only issue is my brake lights not working and the fuse blowing.
I am at a lost i dont know if its a wire somewhere, the fuse block or if the brake switch on the pedal shorting out. How can i find the cause. Where should i start and is there a way to rewire just the brake lights so i can run it more direct and not change out all the wiring
