Brake lights

I have a 2008 Pontiac Torrent and I just noticed recently that my brake lights do not illuminate when the pedal is pressed and the engine isn't running. Seems the vehicle has to be started in order for the brake lights to work, dealership says this is normal. Thought this was strange since on all my other cars the brake lights would work whether the car was running or not.

Not sure about the 2008, but 2006 they work regardless of engine running. Same with EVERY other car I've ever owned. Might want to recheck with a different dealership and double check your fuses for the tail lights.

Well the official word from the dealership is that they do not come on without the ignition being turned on. I called two dealerships to confirm and they both said the same thing.
