From my last post, I mentioned how I had replaced the master cylinder on my 2001 Pontiac Aztec. Had lots of trouble finding an exact match for master cylinder and the one I got looked identical, except for the threaded bore size where the brake lines go in. After getting adapters and installing it, brakes are worse than ever. Before they were soft and squishy, and when you’re at a light, the pedal would slowly go to the floor making me think there were some leaks in the master cylinder. Now you only get any break in the last 2 inches before it hits the floor. I had to remove one of the lines from the ABS block to bend the brake line so it would clear with the new adapter on. So I figured I might’ve gotten some air in the ABS Module. Used almost a full quart of brake fluid carefully bleeding every wheel today starting with the furthest. Did see air come out of the passenger side, rear and front. Pumped through more brake fluid till there were no bubbles, figured I’d gotten it. But now I barely have any brakes at all. Thoughts? I took it to AutoZone and they scanned it and got three codes. c0550 -ecu Malfunction, code C0035 will speed sensor, circuit malfunction and code C0896 - device voltage range /performance. Sorry this is so long, but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Did you try to find the instructions to bleed the ABS system?

Yeah, I read a couple different articles talking about the auto bleed procedure and it sounds like you need a scan tool. I’m wondering would air in the ABS block effect brake pedal height?🤔

The height typically is controlled by a spring and a pedal stop. Did you compare the old master and the new master where the pushrod seats on the back of the master, same distance?

Both of the new master cylinders looked the same as far as where the pushrod seats. Same distance. I don’t think I worded it right in my last post it’s not the height of the pedal, the pedal is still at the same height compared to the gas and everything inside. It’s just that you push the pedal in about 8 inches before you actually start breaking. so I’m wondering if air the ABS block in the different solenoids would affect that?

Yes, you may have air in the ABS system

You sir are correct! Thanks! Had air in the ABS module that didn’t come out when I was bleeding it. Gave up and took it to Brakes Plus, they got all the air out for me and they work great now.👍👍 feel pretty goofy about it! The only master cylinder’s I’ve replaced before have been from the sixties or early seventies…never messed with one with ABS before! Definitely learned something new.
