Broken hose

While trying to access the number 1 spark plug on my girlfriends Pontiac torrent I accidentally broke a piece off to the side. I can provide a picture but it has a cap attached to it on the left side of the engine and sits right behind the air filter box. I would just like to know what it is and how much money I am looking at to fix it.

the torrent was made over a period of multiple years and had different engines, what year and what engine?
the view shown in the picture isnt too clear nor exactly what in the image is the broken component? can you take a picture from a different angle showing more of the engine in order to determine what is close to the broken part.
is it driveable? if it is take it to a local repair shop to determine what the broken part is.

It is a 2006 and the engine is a 3.4l, I can provide a picture of what it looks like. I pulled it off the vehicle and showed it to someone and they tole me it was a vacuum for the Egr valve? Not sure if this is correct but it is what I was told. It is not driveable as I have pulled the plugs and wires to replace them.
