I recently bought a 455 and I need a Tranny to go with it. I am thinking a TH400 but I was told to check the rear gears to see if the 400 or a 700r4 would be a better match. I am going to rebuild the 455 motor to produce around 400-500 streetable HP. My question is should I get a race transmission from a place like Summit or buy a core locally and have it rebuilt. I am curious if anyone has had experience with any of those brands (like TCI or Hughes or other brands over the Internet.). I am not opposed to paying $1200 for for a built one. I just want a quality tranny.

You will have trouble finding a local place knowledgeable enough to rebuild beyond stock specification. You are better off with TCI or another major high-performance trani business, which you can buy through Summit or Jegs.

So, does anyone have any experiences with the different manufactures?? I have heard mixed opinions about TCI. I have looked on the Internet at monstertrans.com (and other tranny companies) and they offer a way better warranty than the TCI brand available through Summit and Jegs. But I am not familiar with there workmanship.
