Is it worth it to buy a 1998 Firebird: TA LS1? The LS1 engine has 70k miles on it while the body has near 90k. Some of the details are:

-6 speed transmission-SLP Dual/Dual exhaust-Eibach Sportline Springs- 35% tint on sides, 5% on back- TA WS6 17" wheels with new Yokohama tires-clean

I know there are low miles on the engine and decent on the body, but is it worth it at this day and age to buy a 12 year old car? Here's the thing, the guy who owns the car is a mechanic. He told me he had purchased the car without an engine installed but that he installed an LS1 personally. He assured me he knew what was doing by saying it was the 12th engine he put in a car himself. The AC is also not installed, he claims to have all the parts necessary to install it.

We negotiated on a price of $6500. Once I brought up the fact that I need the AC to be installed before I buy it, he instantly dropped it down to $6000 and seemed to rush me to buy it. He is a mechanic and I don't know anything about repairing cars so I'm paranoid there's a huge masked problem that will come out later.

I'm wondering if I should have it checked out by a third party mechanic? Also how much would it cost to install an AC (just the labor if I have the parts).

Sounds like you should have it checked out by a competent 3rd party mechanic who can also give you an estimate on the AC install and determine if all the components are there for the AC
